The Benefits of the Lapidary for Seniors

One of the most fun things about building a special oil formulation is learning the back-stories. Is a customer doing which requires its own special oil? Although we’ve been selling ID Rock Cutting Oil for over 40 years, the build of this website allowed us to spend some time in the Carson City, NV Senior Center lapidary department and the opportunity to look at just how many good things result from this hobby.  Here are just a few positives afforded by the fun of hunting for ‘the beauty within’ – specifically with seniors in mind!

ROCKHOUNDING AND LAPIDARY CREATION: ENJOYED BY ALL AGES AND ABILITIES

Rockhounding and lapidary creation can be enjoyed by any age and almost any physical condition. Did you know grammas and grampas can hammer and smash rocks just as good while standing up or sitting in a wheelchair?

Don’t want to dig for rocks or hunt rock? Can’t maneuver well enough to walk any distance looking for rocks?....don’t want to drive, can’t drive, shouldn’t drive looking for rocks?!  Did you know you can buy whatever kind of rock you want ONLINE?

Don’t ‘do’ online? No excuse, my friend.  You, or someone you know, knows someone age six or above. ‘Nuf said.

Really don’t want to budget for lapidary equipment? Your local senior center or gem and mineral club probably has equipment members can use with a membership fee.  The dues of some clubs around here are $20.00 annually!

How often does someone say, “I never know what to get you for your birthday.” (or any day, for that matter) What about a membership in your local senior center, lapidary club, gem and mineral club?!!!

No room at home for a hobby?  Enter the senior center!  Totally safe environment, ramp access everywhere, friendly folks that actually have manners and all of a similar age and you’re definitely going to find several of them with similar interests.

With similar interests there will always be an opportunity to learn and share knowledge and expertise. That, my friend, is Priceless.

“I love rocks and the jewelry and gifts made from them, but I don’t really want to make anything myself.”  Well, what about volunteering to perform a small task involving the group of maybe their annual Gem and Mineral Show.  You might be that really nice fellow who smiled at us at the reception desk and pointed us in the right direction at the last show we attended. (Which was spectacular, by the way and is coming up in May”.

And then there’s the delicious LUNCH! I know people who plan their whole week around it!!
